Is your website working? The 4 questions that answer it

Did people come, where from, did they reach the offer, did they contact you. How to measure what matters on your website without drowning in charts.

Your website has been live for a few months. Is it working?

If the honest answer is "I think so", you are not alone. Most business owners cannot say, and it is not for lack of tools. It is because nobody showed them the few numbers that really matter.

To know whether a page works, four questions are enough. None of them is about design.

1. Did people come?

How many people opened your page this week. It is the starting point: without visits, nothing else happens.

Visits alone only tell part of the story. Lots of people arriving and nobody reaching out is a sign the page needs some adjustments.

2. Where did they come from?

Instagram, Google, the ad you paid for, a referral or "nowhere". This answer tells you where your time and money are worth spending.

If you run ads, use links with campaign tags (UTM parameters). That way you know exactly which ad brought each visit.

3. Did they reach the offer?

Or did they give up before seeing the price, the form or the contact button? This is usually where the biggest opportunity to improve is.

If many people arrive and few reach the offer, the problem is not traffic. It is the page: too much text too early, a confusing section, slow loading on mobile.

4. Did they contact you?

For a service business, a conversion is not always a sale. It is the click on the chat button, the form sent, the call booked.

This is the number that turns a website into something you can defend with data.

The four-step funnel

Together, the four questions make a simple funnel:

  1. Visit
  2. Reached the offer
  3. Clicked the contact button
  4. Completed the contact

Between each step there is a rate. Looking at the rate, not the total, is how you find where the page is losing people.

You can measure without invading anyone's privacy

You do not need to store names or emails, or follow people around the internet. An anonymous, cookieless count per session is enough to answer the four questions. You do not need to know who came. You need to know how many and where they stop.

What to do with the answers

Once a month, look at four things:

  • The numbers for the month
  • One thing that improved, and why
  • One thing that is stuck, with the evidence
  • One single action for next month

Fifteen minutes a month is enough to stop guessing.

In short

A website works when it brings people, from the right source, to the point of contact, and those people reach out. If you can't answer one of these four questions about your website today, that's okay: it is a great first step.

Before touching any screen, I review your website with you, and after launch you get a simple dashboard that answers these four questions. Shall we talk?
